La Creuse
The Creuse department is in the Limousin region in central France. It is named after the River Creuse which flows through the department.
The department and its uplands and ravines form the beginnings of the foothills of the Massif Central, further to the east. The area is mainly agricultural. The brown Limousin cattle which populate the fields are world famous for the quality of beef they produce.
As well as its spectacular beauty the Creuse is economically deprived, being one of the poorest regions in modern France.
I have visited several times a year since 2007 and hope the work shown addresses some of the complexities of modern rural French life.
The images are generally static and avoid the dramatic.
There is no attempt to be romantic or nostalgic about the subject, but an attempt to create a cumulative narrative.
There are consciously few people in the images. I get a strong sense that we migrate through our environment. We leave our traces but our environs will continue long after we have departed.

As you've undoubtedly noticed, I like working in square format (see blog post 3/4/2019 for further info).
However 16:9 format (similar to panoramic, though closer to the cinema / t.v. screen) also holds a fascination.
